Proto-Sino-Tibetan: *chīkʷ
Meaning: axe, chop, chisel
Tibetan: ãchog (p. bcags, f. bcog) to hew, chop, cut, pierce.
Burmese: ćhauk chisel, LB *chuk.
Lepcha: ček to hew down
Comments: Several roots of this type are reconstructed and mergers were certainly possible: cf. *ʒ́hV̄kʷ, *[ć]ɨăk, *śēk. Cf. PAN *saksak 'hack, chop' (Sag 44 Chin.-AN).
